Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

In the picture above you see members of our therapy team; yes it's true!  Stepping Stone has partnered with Harnessing Hope: North Georgia Equine Assisted Therapy in Dawsonville, GA to provide clients with an experiential therapy process and opportunity for personal growth.  This process is called Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.  EAP has become one of our clients' favorite and most successful therapies.

The use of horses in therapy is gaining more recognition as a powerful and effective approach to helping children, adolescents, and adults.  Those who are familiar with horses recognize and understand the power of horses to influence people in incredibly powerful ways.  Horses have an amazing power to heal and to teach.  They offer unconditional friendship, experience a wide range of feelings, and provide immediate, honest, observable feedback in response to our interactions with them.  Horses are sensitive to nonverbal stimulus, which makes them astute therapeutic guides.  They are social beings that bring us insight into group dynamics and our individual roles we play in our daily lives.

In the EAP Process, the therapist and the equine specialist work as a team to guide the client(s) through their experiences with the therapy horses. These experiences and interactions with the horses allow clients to make breakthroughs in therapy that may not otherwise be possible.  The entire EAP environment is one of support, love, and healing.  These beautiful creatures are truly a gift from God.

For more information on EAP please contact Kristin LeBlanc or Harnessing Hope.  Also, please visit www.harnessinghope.org to find out more about their EAP, EAL (Equine Assited Learning), and horse rescue programs.

*WARNING:  Please be careful when choosing an EAP therapist.  There are a lot of people/groups offering Equine Assisted Therapy.  Unfortunatlely they are not all qualified to do so.  All therapists should be working with OR be a certifed equine specialist (certified either though EAGALA or OK Corral Series) who has the proper training and horses who have been desensitized in order to work with therapy clients.  This is vital to the safety of clients.  Certified professionals also carry the proper and necessary insurance for Equine Therapy.
